Geng Jian

Geng Jian, born in 1957 in Tianjin with family origin in Hebei province; graduated from the Graduate School of Chinese Art Study with Master’s Degree of Arts in History of Fine Arts in 1992; graduated from Department of Fine Arts of Academy of Fine Arts of Nanjing University of the Arts with Doctoral Degree of Arts in 1999; entered postdoctoral research station of College of Archeology of Peking University in 2003, engaging in Buddhist art and archaeology research; transferred to Nanjing University of the Arts in 2006 after going out of the postdoctoral research station; worked as Dean of Teaching and Research Section of Fine Arts of Shannxi University, Deputy Director of Calligraphy Research Institute; now works as Professor, Master’s and Docotral Supervisor in Nanjing University of the Arts. Engaged in teaching and academic job of History of Arts, the teaching and research field is History of Chinese Art, and main research interest is History of Painting, Buddhist Art and Archeology. Current teaching courses include: History of Chinese Art, Introduction to Buddhist Art, Thesis Writing, Theory of Document Catalogue, Theory of Chinese Painting, etc.

Research items mainly undertaken: 1. Zen Buddhism and Chinese Painting (subject of 2000 Doctoral kick-off expense of Shannxi University); 2.Relationship between Gandhara Relics and Early Buddhist Sites in China (scientific research item of 2003 Peking University station entry, sub-theme of National Key Subject); 3. Research on History of Chinese Zen Painting (Special subject approved by Leadership Team of National Art Planning); Subjects attended with main responsibilities: Dictionary of Chinese Painting Theory (subject of Ministry of Education) etc.
