Wang Jianyuan

Wang Jianyuan, male, Han Nationality, born in 1957, a native of Suzhou of Jiangsu province; Director of Music School of Nanjing University of the Arts, Professor, Doctoral Supervisor of Music Composition and Theory of Music Composition, Deputy Editor-in-chief of Music and Performance, member of Academic Committee of Nanjing University of the Arts; Executive Director of Music Research Society of Ministry of Culture, Director of Popular Music of Chinese Musicians Association, Executive Director of Music Communication Association of Chinese Musicians Association, Visiting Professor of Communication University of China. Main Research Interests: Music Composition and Theory of Music Composition; Popular Music study.

After tens of years of teaching, he compiled several teaching materials as Chief Editor or Deputy Editor-in-chief, including Basic Piano Courses of Popular Music, Teaching Courses for Classical Guitar, Music Communication and Theory of Music Communication, Theoretical View of Cotemporary Popular Music, etc as the Chief Editor; monograph of Application and Acoustics(published and issued by Haixia Art & Literature Publishing House in December 2003); published tens of academic papers in key Music journals, involving Theory of Music Composition, professional music education, popular music discipline construction and etc. Representative works include: Intangibility of Traditional Culture of China, Combination of Gracefulness and Romance: Analysis of Music Works of Xu Zhenmin, Pondering on Diversified and Creative Compiling of Chinese National Orchestral Band, Use of Polyphony Organization in Choral Works, On Musical Treatment of The Rite of Spring of Stravinsky, Discussion on Popular Music discipline Construction from Perspective of Current Popular Music Education in Chinese Higher Education Colleges, Relevant Thinking on Development of Chinese Theatrical Art and Talent Education in Art Colleges, etc.

In terms of academic research, stress on combination of teaching and practice, unification of theory and practice. As for music creating, it has wide-range style and fruitful achievements, works ranging from symphony, orchestra, chamber music, instrumental solo to movie and TV music, opera music, dance music and art songs; the more influential works include: The First Symphony, Symphonic Overture of Transmigration, symphonic poem of Nostalgia in Stone City,
Folk Orchestra of the Waking of Insects, chamber music of Moon, I, Shade, Cello solo of Jumping Flower Festival, art song of Snow Flies, etc, and obtained awards for more than 30 times in domestic and overseas music creation contests, among which, the Symphony Chorus of Shangri-La obtained Outstanding Composition Award in American Iowa International Choral Festival, the Symphony Chorus of Festive Overture was first performed in Japan by Japanese Nagoya Symphony Orchestra, Chorus; the “Wang Jianyuan Symphonic Concerts” was successfully held in 2001, and won wide recognition from the field. In addition, more than 20 audio-visual products were published in succession, including over 10 CD works are issued overseas.
