NUA Hosts the First China-Thailand Academic Exchange on Cross-Cultural Music Studies with PGVIM, Thailand

On December 16-17, 2024, Nanjing University of the Arts (NUA), in collaboration with  Thailand’s Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music (PGVIM), hosted the First  China-Thailand Academic Exchange on Cross-Cultural Music Studies. Organized by  the Department of International Exchanges and Cooperation and the School of Music  of NUA, this event welcomed approximately 30 music scholars and experts from both  sides. The event featured two primary components: academic exchanges and a special  concert, with a focus on exploring the theory and practice of cross-cultural music  studies worldwide. During the academic exchange session, 21 experts and scholars  engaged in in-depth discussions regarding advancements in cross-cultural music  research through keynote speeches, roundtable forums, and plenary presentations.  Zhang Jie, Vice President of Nanjing University of the Arts, highlighted the importance  of this event in strengthening collaboration between the two institutions and  promoting cultural diversity and mutual understanding. Furthermore, discussions were  held regarding the establishment of a Chinese-Thailand World Music Cross-Cultural  Research Center, as well as preparations for a celebratory concert commemorating the  50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand. These initiatives  aim to foster the inheritance and innovation of musical culture in both nations.
