On December 16-17, 2024, Nanjing University of the Arts (NUA), in collaboration with Thailand’s Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music (PGVIM), hosted the First China-Thailand Academic Exchange on Cross-Cultural Music Studies. Organized by the Department of International Exchanges and Cooperation and the School of Music of NUA, this event welcomed approximately 30 music scholars and experts from both sides. The event featured two primary components: academic exchanges and a special concert, with a focus on exploring the theory and practice of cross-cultural music studies worldwide. During the academic exchange session, 21 experts and scholars engaged in in-depth discussions regarding advancements in cross-cultural music research through keynote speeches, roundtable forums, and plenary presentations. Zhang Jie, Vice President of Nanjing University of the Arts, highlighted the importance of this event in strengthening collaboration between the two institutions and promoting cultural diversity and mutual understanding. Furthermore, discussions were held regarding the establishment of a Chinese-Thailand World Music Cross-Cultural Research Center, as well as preparations for a celebratory concert commemorating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand. These initiatives aim to foster the inheritance and innovation of musical culture in both nations.
