Nanjing University of the Arts' Experimental Theatre Presents Sino-Canadian Collaborative Opera "Thunderstorm" |
Recently, the "Discover Jiangsu · University of British Columbia 'Thunderstorm' Theatre Troupe's Jiangsu Tour, Nanjing Station" event, jointly hosted by the Jiangsu Provincial Education International Exchange Service Center, the University of British Columbia’s Faculty of Music, and the School of International Education of Nanjing University of the Arts, was held at the Experimental Theatre of Nanjing University of the Arts on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Canada. "This play holds such an important position in Chinese literature, and it's amazing to be able to adapt it into an opera, especially with two Canadian Chinese composers behind it. I wanted to perform this opera in Mandarin because more than 50% of Vancouver’s population is of Asian descent, with a large portion being Chinese," said Professor Nancy Hermiston, director of the Chinese opera Thunderstorm. She mentioned that this performance marks another cultural cooperation between China and Canada. Whether through learning Chinese or performing such a renowned Chinese literary masterpiece, all the students were eager to participate. As one of the key events of the 2025 Nanjing University of the Arts Graduation Performance Carnival, this outstanding performance added a vibrant international touch to Nanjing University of the Arts' 520 celebrations.
