Li Xiangmin was born in 1966 in Jianhu, Jiangsu Province. He is a famed economic and cultural scholar and playwright (under the pseudonym Nan Ke). He is a second-level professor and doctoral supervisor. Li Xiangmin is one of the founders of the cultural industry research in China, the earliest scholar to study the cultural industry in China, and the founder of spiritual economic theory and art economic history. Mr. Li is currently a member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of NUA, and President of the Purple Academy of Culture & Creativity, a key high-end think tank in Jiangsu Province. He serves as the chief expert of major projects of the National Social Science Fund and enjoys special allowances from the State Council. Li Xiangmin is also the president of the Chinese Cultural Industry Management Committee of the Chinese Society of Artistic Theory, a member of the China Writers Association, a member of the China Artists Association, a member of the China Film Association, a member of the Art Industry Research Committee of the China Literature and Art Critics Association, the vice president of the Film and Television Industry Professional Committee of the Chinese College Film and Television Society, the executive director of the Chinese TV Drama Screenwriting Working Committee, an honorary member of the Jiangsu Provincial Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the vice president of the Association for the Promotion of Talent Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Jiangsu Province, and a doctoral supervisor at the Macau University of Science and Technology. He is one of the 333 High-level Talents Training Project young and middle-aged science and technology leaders in Jiangsu Province.
Li Xiangmin once served as the deputy director and member of the Party group of the Jiangsu Provincial Office of Economic System Reform and the chairman and Party secretary of the Jiangsu Cultural Industry Group. Various awards were given to him: Outstanding Philosophical and Social Science Worker of Jiangsu Province (1997), Top Ten Outstanding People in China's Cultural Industry (2004), Elite Award for Thoughtful People in China's Cultural Industry (2008), Science and Technology Entrepreneurs of Jiangsu Province (2012), and Award for 20 Years of Academic Contribution to China's Cultural Industry (2019). He has published more than one hundred papers and is responsible for the completion of several major projects, including Research on Art Think Tanks with Chinese Characteristics, a major project of the National Social Science Fund for Art. He has successively published The First Awakening of Dreams, The Economic History of Chinese Art, Spiritual Economy, Cultural Industry: Culture in Change, The Economic History of Chinese Art, The Introduction to Cultural Industries Management, History of Chinese Cultural Industry, Cultural Economics, History of Tibetan Buddhist Statue Industry and other nearly 20 works. He is the editor-in-chief of Frontier Textbook of Cultural Industry, Peking University, A Series of Textbooks on Cultural Industry Management for General Higher Education Institutions, A Series of Books on the Economic History of Art, etc. He has been the winner of the Outstanding Achievement Award of Philosophy and Social Sciences of Jiangsu Province and the Outstanding Achievement Award of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education many times.
As the president and chief expert of the Purple Academy of Culture & Creativity, a key high-end think tank in Jiangsu Province, Li Xiangmin has presided over the drafting of important plans such as the 13th Five-Year Cultural Development Plan of the Tibet Autonomous Region and the plan for the Wuxi National Digital Film Industry Innovation Experimental Zone. He actively advised the State and Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee and Jiangsu Provincial Government to accelerate legislation on the Promotion of Cultural Industries Act by the National People's Congress. In 2018, the China Think Tank Research and Evaluation Center released the list of the top 100 think tanks in Chinese universities, and the Purple Academy of Culture & Creativity was rated A, ranking first among the cultural and art think tanks in China.
As a playwright, in 2016, Li Xiangmin won the National Top Ten TV Drama Screenwriters award. His film and television dramas The Merchants of Qing Dynasty, Ebola Fighters, What's The Big Deal, Nightmare, Da Yu, Zhengyi Gate and the drama Chang Ming have been broadcast in primetime on CCTV and released and screened in theaters nationwide. Many of his works have been broadcast overseas. He has published a novel, The Adventure of Soy in the Tristar Hills, in the United States. He has undertaken many important national creative tasks. His works have acquired him the Best Works Award of the Publicity Department, the Starlight Award of the National Radio and Television Administration, the Golden Eagle Award, and the Flying Apsaras Award. Li Xiangmin is the leader of the national first-class major of Drama Film and Television Literature at Nanjing University of the Arts.
